SCLERODERMA AWARENESS
EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN
This animation is a homage to Scleroderma Awareness Month, which is in the month of June. This condition is rare, and not commonly spoken of, so this animation was created to spread information of what the disease is in a short but straightforward graphic. Kirishima Eijiro is a fictional hero character featured as a mascot to empower those who may relate. The character has the ability to harden their skin, which matches the medical definition of this rare disease: Sclero (hard) Derma skin. He holds a teal ribbon - the color assigned to Scleroderma Awareness.
The concept behind this animation was to portray the Kirishima using the illustration style of manga and animation styles typically used to highlight sports athletes - featuring large impacting text and aligning typography. While Scleroderma is not to be glamorized, the character holds to personality traits intended for those who undergo difficult times: endurance, perseverance, and facing your fears.
