OBITUARY
AIGA DALLAS COMMUNITY PROJECT
The Deck is a community project that gathers 54 members of the local design community to create one card each for a deck of playing cards. Each year a theme is released, and the designer must adhere to a set of guidelines for optimal printing. In 2024, I participated in the Classic Cocktails design and was assigned the Obituary. The illustration is now a part of the complete set that includes the other AIGA Dallas designers.

Behind the Design
La Muerte
The Classic Cocktails theme had a color palette of red, white, and black. Using symbolism and aesthetics that speak to the afterlife and memory, I aimed to design a cocktail that was elegant, but ambiguously spiritual. A woman’s hand is portrayed as an interpretation of the Spanish translation of death: “la muerte”, which is a feminine noun.
